Positive Equity

Find customers whose car is likely worth more than they owe, using only your own DMS sales and service history.

Version 1.1 · Sep 8, 2026

The problem

Equity campaigns often rely on outside data or guesswork. Your DMS already holds the loan terms, real mileage from service visits, and what your store pays on trades. Positive Equity estimates what each customer still owes and what their car is worth to you as a trade, and lists the ones with money left over.

What you get back

Counts

How many customers were checked, how many show positive equity, and how many are above $2,000.

Loans from this store

Customer, salesperson, vehicle, estimated balance, trade value and equity.

Service customers, loan from a sister store

The same, found through your service drive.

Service customers, no dealer loan

Cash deals and loans past term. Equity here is a ceiling, not a confirmed number.

Held back

Possible business and fleet vehicles, counted separately.

How it works

1

Claude explains what it estimates, then asks four quick choices with defaults: which store, new or used deals, a minimum equity, and whether to include service-drive customers.

2

It checks your store has DMS history.

3

It estimates each balance from the loan terms, and values each car from your own trade prices, not retail.

4

It lists the customers above water, one list per group.

Example output

Sample output from the skill (sample store).

Northside Motors: 31 of 412 open finance customers show positive equity. 19 are above $2,000.

Try this first

Who has positive equity at [your store]?

Claude explains what it estimates and asks four quick choices, each with a default you can accept, then returns counts and lists.

More questions to ask

  • Which past buyers could trade up without negative equity?
  • Who can we target for an equity campaign?
  • Build an equity list above $2,000

Good to know

  • These are estimates for targeting, not payoff quotes.
  • Values use your own trade prices, which are well under retail, so the list stays realistic.
  • Meant for managers, not individual salespeople.

Test before you rely on it

Pull payoffs on the top five before your team calls.
