Pricing vs Market

Compare your new-car discounts off MSRP with nearby stores selling the same brand, and see which units to reprice.

Version 1.1 · Sep 2, 2026

The problem

Comparing sticker prices across stores misleads you, because packages can swing MSRP by $15,000 on the same trim. What matters is how much each store takes off MSRP on the same car. Pricing vs Market compares your discount with nearby same-brand stores, trim by trim, and turns the gap into dollars per unit.

What you get back

Competitors compared

The nearby stores used, with city and distance.

Discounted less than the market

Units priced above the market, so your first price conversations. Stock numbers, both discounts, dollars per unit, days on lot.

Discounted more than the market

Units where you may be leaving money on the table, with the same detail.

Flags

Gaps over 10 points are flagged "check equipment before repricing", since packages can explain them.

Not compared

Units with too few competitor matches, and stores left out and why.

How it works

1

It finds your store and ZIP code.

2

It checks that your new units publish both a price and an MSRP. Days on lot appears once there are 14 days of inventory history.

3

It picks same-brand stores within 50 miles, widening to 75 and then 100 until at least 3 qualify. It leaves out sites with stale data, no MSRP, or prices that always equal MSRP.

4

It compares discount off MSRP by year, model and trim, and turns each gap into dollars per unit.

Try this first

How does [your store]'s new-car pricing compare to the market?

Claude checks your inventory data, picks nearby competitors, then returns the two lists with dollars per unit and the stores it compared against.

More questions to ask

  • How does our new car pricing compare to the Kia stores around us?
  • Where are we leaving money on the table?
  • Which units should we reprice?

Good to know

  • Works for new vehicles. Adapt prompt if you want to compare used
  • If nearby stores don't publish usable prices, it tells you rather than widening the search.
  • A market discount that rests on only one or two stores is called out.

Test before you rely on it

Spot-check two or three units on the competitor's website before you reprice.
